For this project I decided that I would try to code something that had to do with holidays that I celebrate and my background. I decided that I would try to code The Star of Davids because I’m Jewish and my favorite Jewish holiday is Hanukkah. I tried using regular fill, forward, right etc commands. Since I used those commands it made my code a little bit messed up. I wasn’t and am not sure on how to fix it but I tried to make as close as I could.
We were assigned this maze project and what it was is that we had to make a code that would get out turtle through the maze. It was pretty hard even though I did not finish it. I could not get past the second line or second part of the code. It was kind of hard just to get through the first two lines but I found out how to. At first I had an idea of how to do the first line of code and it worked! Unfortunately, it did not work with the second part of the code. It was pretty fun and interesting too! I am not very good at coding on repl.it/python since it is pretty new to me but I hope to keep learning and keep getting better in the future!
For the inspired artwork, my idea was to make it Halloween themed. Since we started working on this project somewhat close to Halloween, I decided that my project would have a Halloween theme. When we were looking at the turtle art gallery, I found a project that was called peaks. I thought that I could use the mountains in that code to be similar to a jack-o’-lanterns’ mouth/smile. for the purple, I thought it would be cool to add some Halloween colors and those are orange, purple and black so I thought this would be cool. For the actual code, I used several action blocks to make the circles along with an arc block, add to value block and store in value block. Those are the main/most important blocks that I used in my opinion.
We started working on turtle art and now we are working on this website called repl.it. This website is kind of similar to turtle art in the way of some of the commands. I’m sure other websites have commands very similar to this too. Repl.it is very similar to python. What I did for this race is I made a character/line a member of my family including myself. What I find the most important part of this assignment/code was the random command. The random command basically tells the line/lines to move forward a random amount until a certain distance. Whichever line is the closest to the finish line wins the race.
For our turtle art name project I decided to do my initials, AMK. They stand for Aleah Margaret Kazinsky. This code took a long time because I am new to coding and do not really know how to use turtle art especially since this is the first time I have ever used it (other than our first project). I am excited to use more turtle art and learn more on it. I was kind of confused on how to use action blocks but I think I used them correctly. I accidentally coded the M sideways/crooked but when I tried to fix it it messed up the code completely. (I’m sorry if you can’t see the full code/codes)
The shape that i created was a decagon (a shape with ten sides). It was very easy and fun to create and I am very excited to do more with turtle art in the future. I am not too good with coding so I am excited to see what I can do in turtle art to make me better with coding.
My name is Aleah and i’m in seventh grade. I have been at Quest since first grade and so has my brother even though he graduated a long time ago. I love Star Wars and all of the movies and shows. One of my favorite hobbies is drawing. I love to binge watch shows and movies for hours until I finally get tired of watching them. I love to dance and that is my favorite sport. I started gymnastics when I was three years old and when I was 10 years old I decided to quit and and do dance and tumbling.
